Get Going with CIO: Categories, Subcategories and Note pads
Learn the basic structure of Creative Imagination Organiser by creating a Category, adding Subcategories and seeing how each Subcategory keeps its own Note pad.
What you'll learn
- Create a Category in CIO.
- Add Subcategories inside a Category.
- Enter different information into each Subcategory's Note pad.
- Switch between Subcategories and return to the information in each Note pad.
- Understand how Categories, Subcategories and Note pads work together.
Quick reminder
A Category can contain different Subcategories. Each Subcategory keeps its own Note pad, so when you switch away and return, that Subcategory's Note pad returns.
Try it yourself
Create a Category of your own, add three Subcategories, enter different information into each Note pad, then switch between the Subcategories and check that each Note pad returns with its own information.
Common questions
What is the relationship between a Category and a Subcategory in CIO?
A Category can contain different Subcategories. The Subcategories let you organise separate subjects inside that Category.
Does each Subcategory have its own Note pad?
Yes. In this lesson, Fruit, Vegetables and Jobs each have their own Note pad with different information.
What happens to a Note pad when I switch to another Subcategory?
When you select another Subcategory, its Note pad is shown. When you return to the original Subcategory, its original Note pad returns.

Welcome to CIO, Creative Imagination Organiser.
In this short lesson, I'll show you how Categories, Subcategories and Note pads work together.
Start by adding a Category called Plans.
Enter Plans as the Category name.
Select OK to create the Plans Category.
Now add a Subcategory called Fruit.
Enter Fruit as the Subcategory name.
Select OK to create Fruit.
We'll add Apples, Oranges and Bananas to the Fruit Note pad.
Next, add another Subcategory called Vegetables.
Enter Vegetables as the Subcategory name.
Select OK to create Vegetables.
We'll add Carrots, Tomatoes and Mushrooms to the Vegetables Note pad.
Now add one more Subcategory called Jobs.
Enter Jobs as the Subcategory name.
Select OK to create Jobs.
We'll add Washing up, Hoovering and Ironing to the Jobs Note pad.
We now have three Subcategories.
Let's switch between them and check that each one keeps its own Note pad.
Select Fruit.
The Fruit Note pad returns.
Select Vegetables.
The Vegetables Note pad returns.
Select Jobs.
The Jobs Note pad returns.
Select Fruit again.
The original Fruit Note pad returns.
That's the basic idea.
A Category can contain different Subcategories, and every Subcategory keeps its own Note pad.
You're now ready to start building your own plans in the organiser.
